Overview

Research Fellow: Disability Rights, Gender, Reproductive Health at University of Melbourne.

This role is a Part-Time (0.8 FTE), fixed-term for 12 months, within Melbourne Law School. Salary: Level A.6 – A$108,156 p.a. plus 17% super.

Role context

As a Research Fellow on the "Amplifying the Voices of Disabled Women and Gender Diverse People in Obstetric Care" project, you will lead socio-legal and empirical research intended to influence healthcare policy and practice, with a focus on obstetric care for marginalised groups.

Responsibilities
  • Lead impactful socio-legal research and influence healthcare policy.
  • Conduct in-depth empirical research, including 40-60 qualitative interviews using a narrative methodology.
  • Coordinate project partnerships with Mercy Hospital for Women and The Royal Women's Hospital; manage the project advisory group.
  • Analyze findings and contribute to scholarly publications and policy recommendations.
Qualifications and experience
  • PhD in a relevant field (such as law, sociology, disability studies, or healthcare).
  • Strong analytical skills and experience with interdisciplinary literature reviews.
  • Expertise in qualitative research methods, particularly semi-structured interviews.
  • Experience working with diverse communities, especially disabled individuals or gender-diverse people.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a track record of scholarly publications.
