Responsibilities
  • Support the Open Spaces team and gain practical skills in parks and reserve maintenance to keep our open spaces well presented and maintained.
  • Rotate in areas of open spaces, parks and gardens, turf/sportsfield maintenance, greenkeeping, nursery, tree maintenance and bush regeneration. Based at Oak Flats Services Depot.
  • Complete a Certificate III in Horticulture at Yallah TAFE to develop practical knowledge and skills related to the presentation of the city.
  • Engage in on-the-job and off-the-job training as part of the apprenticeship, with potential for additional tickets (e.g., MR truck licence, forklift, loader competency).
  • Participate in the Cadet, Apprentice and Trainee (CAT) program to support professional development and leadership growth within the Open Spaces team.
Qualifications and eligibility
  • Open to school leavers, mature age applicants, second year apprentices, and/or those who have started a Certificate III in Horticulture.
  • Ability to complete a nationally recognised qualification while gaining four years of practical experience on the job.

Employment details and benefits
  • Temporary Full time up to 4 years (or duration of the apprenticeship) 38 hours per week with access to a 9 Day-fortnight
  • Salary range from $601.70 per week (16 years old) up to $827.40 per week (18+) plus 12% superannuation
  • On-the-job training; compulsory course costs paid by Council; leave to attend TAFE
