Horticulture apprentices will be working closely with our Open Spaces team to maintain parks and reserves, supporting our goal of presenting the city in a well-maintained state. They will gain practical skills in areas such as turf/sportsfield maintenance, greenkeeping, nursery, tree maintenance, and bush regeneration.

The apprenticeship includes a Certificate III in Horticulture course at TAFE, providing hands-on knowledge and skills for maintaining city presentation. The program is open to school leavers, mature age applicants, second year apprentices, or those who have commenced their Certificate III in Horticulture.

This opportunity covers theoretical and practical requirements through on-the-job and off-the-job training. Upon completion, apprentices will have formal qualifications and four years of practical experience, enabling them to gain additional tickets like Medium Rigid (MR) truck licences, forklift tickets, loader competency, and more.

We aim to expand our skilled workforce by creating job opportunities and a talent pipeline for specialised roles through our Cadet, Apprentice, and Trainee Program. This is the third stage of expanding new roles created, focusing on the Open Spaces team.

Our Program develops future leaders by providing employment opportunities, professional development experiences, and related courses of external tertiary study. Workplace mentors offer ongoing training, guidance, and support while completing nationally recognised qualifications.
