The Woodhouse Timber Company is an Australian-owned and established business that services the Queensland, New South Wales, ACT, Victorian, South Australian and Western Australian markets with premium building products.
Operating under an exclusive wholesale supply chain model, Woodhouse distributes its product ranges through a recognised network of Building Material and Hardware Merchants; Home Centre Outlets; and Truss and Wall frame manufacturers.
Our range includes Structural and Decorative Remanufactured Plantation Pine products for internal and external building projects and applications.
We currently have a full-time 6-Month Contract position available for A Warehouse Supervisor, based in Darra, Queensland.
KEY PURPOSE:
This leadership role is responsible for the efficient and effective coordination and supervision of all warehouse activities whilst ensuring that all safety aspects are adhered to. This role is a working role, and this Position Description should be read in conjunction with that of both the Forklift Operator and Shed Hand Position Descriptions.
A key focus of this role is to support the execution of Woodhouse's vision: "We are fast, flexible and frequent, providing customers with quality products and service, futureproofing our business".
Major objectives- Compliance with all safety and environmental procedures/responsibilities;
- Responsible for the efficient and effective supervision of warehouse staff and activities;
- Use of the WMS (Warehouse Management System) to optimise warehouse performance;
- Manage and motivate the workforce to ensure that products are stored and shipped out accurately and efficiently;
- Ensure proper transport, packaging and placement of products; and
- Management of inventory, including damages.
Your responsibilities, directly or indirectly will include but will not be limited to:
Key AccountabilitiesSafety
- Be a Woodhouse Timber Safety Champion and understand the responsibilities of this role;
- Ensure adherence to the Woodhouse Timber Health and Safety Handbook and the Woodhouse Timber Health and Safety Manual policies and procedures;
- Adherence to all safety regulations and legislative requirements;
- Ensure that safe and environmentally acceptable working methods and practices are implemented and carried out across all warehouse activities;
- Promote total job safety and environmental awareness to employees, subcontractors and all persons in the job vicinity and stress to all employees and subcontractors the importance senior management attaches to safe work practices and environmental protection;
- Ensure that hazards are identified, risk assessed, and control measures planned and implemented in consultation with relevant employees and as authorised by the Warehouse Manager; and
- Act diligently to ensure all Risk and Safety Assessments are completed using the appropriate forms and documents.
- Support and direct activities to ensure completion in accordance with Company plans and procedures;
- Organise, coordinate and direct warehouse activities in accordance with metrics and targets to ensure all work is completed on time and within budget, whilst constantly ensuring the planning, safety and environmental requirements are met;
- Provide constant support and direction to personnel to ensure all staff have a clear understanding of their daily tasks and company goals;
- Create and maintain a positive working environment;
- Hold self and staff accountable;
- Ensure all activities are performed in compliance with the requirement of the relevant specifications, codes and standards of the Company;
- Monitor and review the performance of plant, labour and subcontractors to ensure relevant KPIs and targets are met or bettered and take appropriate action as necessary;
- Timely submittal of reports (i.e. Shift Reports, Toolbox Form, Risk Assessments and Incident Reports);
- Improve warehouse work processes through strategic planning in order to create a more efficient fulfilment system in consultation with the State Operations Manager;
- Assess and allocate priorities as necessary;
- Promptly advise management of issues and keep accurate records of such issues;
- Have a thorough understanding of all work documentation around processes and procedures (including Job Aids), and ensure they are being followed, maintained and adhered to;
- Ensure all personnel are inducted and trained in their role and responsibilities and are competent to perform the duties allocated to them;
- Assist in the hiring of personnel; and
- Prepare and present Toolbox and Safety Team meetings which are relevant to the team in consultation with the Warehouse Manager;
- Oversee, coordinate and complete all monthly responsibilities of the Safety Team;
- Oversee, coordinate and complete all monthly responsibilities of the Inventory Team;
- Maintain machinery, by ensuring equipment pre-starts are undertaken and are serviced when needed;
- Organise all incoming and outgoing transport by liaising with transport companies and drivers;
- Maintain warehouse so a clean and tidy workspace is kept at all times;
- Requisition of minor materials and consumables as required (including but not limited to Gas for forklifts and wrapping / strapping materials);
- Utilisation of planned resources in an efficient manner;
- Promotion of professional image of the Company's operations; and
- Any other duties may be required by the Company.
- Minimum 3 years experience within a leadership role in a warehouse environment (Timber Industry preferred);
- Knowledge of inventory and supply chain management;
- Possess a Forklift licence & must be confident in the usage of a forklift in a warehouse environment;
- Sound working knowledge of WH&S requirements and implementing same;
- Strong and proven ability to lead, direct and manage groups of diverse employees;
- Excellent organisation and efficient time–management skills;
- Ability to meet deadlines and work well under pressure;
- Strong verbal and written communication skills;
- Ability to problem solve and make sound decisions under pressure;
- Previous Warehouse and pick and packing experience; and
- Certificate III Warehousing Operations (not essential, but will be highly regarded).
Authority to immediately stop any works or part works or specified activities directly affected by hazards or potential hazards without adequate control measures in place or where there is a high risk of incident. Resolution of the issue is to be with the relevant Warehouse Manager or in their absence, the relevant Regional Warehouse Operations Manager.
Working relationshipsThe Warehouse Supervisor reports directly to the relevant Warehouse Manager; From time to time may liaise with Heads of Departments (i.e. HR, Finance & Sales); and Work closely with the Internal Sales/Administration Officers.
TravelAd hoc travel may be required to interstate warehouse locations.
