Overview

The Operations Manager reports to the Mental Health Commissioner and leads the operational oversight and performance delivery functions of the Office of the Mental Health Commissioner (OMHC). The role ensures the efficient, ethical, and effective functioning of the organisation through governance, financial stewardship, people management, risk oversight, and systems integration. It plays a pivotal role in aligning strategic objectives with operational capacity, while cultivating a collaborative, inclusive and psychologically safe workplace culture.

Responsibilities
  • Small, high-impact team: you'll be across everything—planning, budgets, procurement/contracts, risk/governance, records/info management, HR coordination and reporting.
  • Hands-on builder: stand up the new operations function from the Ops Review—put in place rhythms, templates, dashboards, approvals and audit-ready records.
  • Highly experienced operator: confident with complex public-sector environments; can prioritise, problem-solve and deliver at pace with limited guidance.
  • Controls and compliance first: lift governance, manage risk, and ensure value for money while keeping delivery moving.
  • Influence without fuss: partner closely with the Commissioner, Leads, Business Services and external suppliers to align timelines, budgets and outcomes.
  • Process improver: simplify and standardise ways of working; use data to drive decisions and continuous improvement.
  • People enabler: coach others to lift operational capability and support professional development across a small team.
  • Purpose and integrity: work respectfully with metro and regional stakeholders; maintain confidentiality and model inclusive, culturally safe practice.

Salary: $121,107 to $125,679 – ASO8 – Full Time / Term Contract up to One Year

Qualifications & Compliance
  • A 'National Police Certificate' NPC (also known as a 'Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check') for employment involving no contact with vulnerable groups is required for this position (general employment)
