About the Role

We are hiring for an enthusiastic and passionate Development Manager Philanthropy here at Macquarie University. This role is responsible for securing significant philanthropic support from high-net-worth individuals based in Australia, through the strategic management of a major gift pipeline in alignment with the University\'s fundraising and engagement goals.

The Philanthropy and Alumni Relations team sits within the Office of the Vice-Chancellor and is responsible for all philanthropic activity across the University. The team creates, develops and manages relationships with alumni, friends and donors, and other supporters who help advance the University\'s mission.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a major gift pipeline to deliver on the University's philanthropic income targets.
  • Identify opportunities for alignment and collaboration between other fundraising and engagement activities across the wider Philanthropy and Alumni Relations Office and the University.
  • Develop, implement and review engagement strategies and plans, in consultation with the team members, to ensure targets are met.
  • Work strategically with colleagues across the Development function and, where appropriate, leaders of academic and professional units, to secure significant philanthropic commitments to the University from a personal portfolio of prospects in Australia, with a focus on major gifts of $100k+.
  • Analyse and report on prospects and donor trends, making recommendations for continuous improvement of program strategy and processes.
  • Provide specialist advice and guidance on major gift fundraising, solicitation and engagement techniques to develop long-term relationships with major gift prospects.
  • Build and manage collaborative relationships with key internal stakeholders across the University to understand their strengths and identify areas to leverage their involvement with fundraising opportunities.
  • Work closely with colleagues across Philanthropy and Alumni Relations to support the identification of emerging opportunities, technologies, and audiences to expand programs and build donor pipelines.
  • Comply with relevant EEO and WHS regulations.
  • Perform any other duties as required and appropriate for this classification.
About You
  • Tertiary qualification and/or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of university advancement, including major gifts.
  • Knowledge of project management principles.
  • Awareness of and sensitivity to a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of and competence in Microsoft Office and database software.
  • Experience in major gift fundraising.
  • Experience of managing a portfolio of major gift prospects including making asks more than $100k.
  • Significant experience managing and building relationships with internal and external stakeholders and donors.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence decision making, including with senior stakeholders.
  • Experience managing projects.
  • Sound commercial acumen and experience conducting research and analysis
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including experience writing briefing documentation for senior management.
