GREENPEACE AUSTRALIA PACIFIC

Be bold. Be creative. Be part of the fight for a green and peaceful future.

At Greenpeace Australia Pacific (GPAP), we believe a better world is possible and we're determined to make it real. We are an independent campaigning organisation, powered by people and creative action, taking on the biggest environmental and climate challenges of our time. Our priorities are:

  • tackling climate change by stopping emissions from fossil fuel extraction at source; and
  • protecting nature, including our oceans and forests, by stopping the largest sources of environmental destruction like industrial fishing and deforestation.

Whatever your role at GPAP, you'll be part of something bigger: a passionate global movement that sparks action, holds decision‑makers to account, and drives lasting change for people and the planet. This is an opportunity to use your skills, creativity, and commitment to help shape a future worth fighting for.

PHILANTHROPY MANAGER

Role: Full time, 12 month Fixed Term Contract

Location: Flexible - Open to candidates Australia wide with a preference for candidates based in Sydney or Melbourne

THE TEAM

This position is part of the High Value Fundraising team within our wider Fundraising and Technology department. Our focus is on engaging new supporters and donors to strengthen GPAP's people-powered movement and extend our impact.

As Greenpeace is entirely funded by individuals, expanding our supporter base is essential to maintaining independence. This freedom ensures we can continue to campaign boldly for the protection of our planet and the incredible diversity of life it sustains.

Through our work, we generate crucial streams of funding that power high impact campaigns and give a stronger voice to our natural world. Remaining free from financial ties to governments, corporations, or political parties safeguards our commitment to true independence. Which is where this position plays an important role.

THE ROLE

We are looking for a dynamic, strategic, and relationship driven Philanthropy Manager to lead our Major Gifts program at GPAP. Reporting to the Head of Philanthropy & Partnerships, this pivotal role shapes the vision and execution of our major giving strategy and helps secure the resources needed to power our ambitious environmental campaigns.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead, inspire, and manage the Major Gifts team to achieve ambitious fundraising targets.
  • Oversee a portfolio of major givers and prospects, ensuring thoughtful cultivation, stewardship, and solicitation.
  • Work closely with the CEO, Head of Philanthropy & Partnerships, and campaign teams to strengthen major donor engagement and tailor funding opportunities.
  • Develop and implement strategies to grow our major gifts pipeline with individuals, trusts, and foundations.
  • Manage a program of high-value relationship building, including events, field trips, and tailored donor communications.
  • Represent Greenpeace externally, expanding networks and mapping the philanthropic landscape to unlock new opportunities.

This is a leadership role with significant engagement at all levels of  stakeholders, requiring the ability to influence, inspire, and deliver transformational fundraising outcomes.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

We are seeking a candidate who not only possesses a high level of knowledge in philanthropy and major gifts fundraising but also has a comprehensive understanding of the Australian philanthropic landscape. You will excel in moving donors through a pipeline and creating effective donor journeys.

You'll ideally also have:

  • At least four (4) years' experience in a similar or related position in relationship fundraising, with a strong track record of effective relationship management across a wide range of people and organisations.
  • Advanced communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to influence and build trust across diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong experience in developing and implementing donor journeys and moving supporters through a giving pipeline.
  • Demonstrated experience securing major gifts of 6-figures or more
  • A deep understanding of the philanthropy sector in Australia, including key actors, institutions, and trends.
  • Familiarity with impact monitoring, evaluation and learning frameworks for philanthropy (narrative assessment, impact measurement, reporting back and demonstrating impact)
  • Event design and donor engagement experience.

We recognise that sometimes the right person for a job is based on personal qualities and not just qualifications. If you are not sure whether you are qualified, we would strongly encourage you to make an inquiry or go ahead and apply.

WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU

  • Be part of a globally respected brand: Work with one of the most influential names in the environmental NGO space, backed by five decades of courageous campaigning.
  • Work-life balance you can rely on: A 35-hour work week, supported by GPAP's integrity framework, plus generous leave options (including an additional week of paid leave between Christmas and New Year).
  • Workplace designed for impact: Enjoy our purpose-built head office in Rosebery, Sydney, a space created to foster collaboration and creativity.
  • A culture of belonging: Join a team that truly celebrates inclusivity, diversity, and a sense of community.
  • Support for your wellbeing: Access an annual health and wellness allowance to help you thrive both inside and outside of work.

Annual full-time salary: $116,562.56 plus superannuation.

HOW TO APPLY

  1. Read the full Job Description.
  2. Submit a Cover Letter (of no more than 1 page) and Resume (of no more than 3 pages) by clicking the 'Apply' button.
  3. Applicants who do not submit a Cover Letter will not be considered.

GPAP is an equal opportunity employer with a longstanding commitment of providing a work environment that respects the dignity and worth of each individual. We recognise and value the benefits and strengths that diversity brings to our employees and the whole organisation and we thrive in an environment that encourages respect and trust.

Note: Not all responsibilities and competencies listed in the Job Description need to be addressed; it is left to the discretion of the applicant which to focus on.
