Wellington Aboriginal Corporation Health Service (WACHS) is an Aboriginal community-controlled health organisation that aims to empower Aboriginal people to take control of their individual, family, and community health and wellbeing needs through our clinical and community programs.
Our main services are in Wellington, Dubbo, Moree, Western Sydney, Penrith, Nepean, and Blue Mountains, and we provide outreach services to other towns and communities through our regional programs.
About the Role:
The Targeted Earlier Intervention (TEI) Program in NSW provides support for children, young people, families, and communities experiencing or at risk of vulnerability. A key role within this initiative is the Safe and Strong Families Worker, who focuses on delivering culturally safe, trauma-informed, and therapeutic early intervention services, particularly to Aboriginal individuals and families impacted by domestic and family violence. The aim is to improve family dynamics, strengthen community ties, and reduce harm.
Key Duties
- Deliver family support services that are trauma-informed and culturally responsive
- Provide case management including assessment, planning, support, and referral
- Facilitate parenting programs, playgroups, and peer support/mentoring groups
- Support emotional and material wellbeing of families through coaching and education
- Collaborate with local DFV networks and specialist services to ensure coordinated support
- Engage with clients using strengths based and community development approaches
- Record accurate case notes, assessments, and reporting data as required
- Participate in local and program-level evaluations and reviews (e.g. Safe and Strong evaluation)
- Strong community connections and cultural awareness, particularly with Aboriginal and diverse communities.
- Experience delivering trauma-informed and therapeutic support to families impacted by domestic and family violence.
- Skilled in facilitating parenting programs and play-based or peer support initiatives focused on early childhood and family wellbeing.
Mandatory compliance requirements of the position:
- Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Community Services, or related field experience
- Excellent communication, time management and organizational skills.
- Knowledge and understanding of the issues that impact Aboriginal people and Aboriginal communities
- Australian Drivers Licence
- Working With Children Check
- Proof of COVID vaccination
- National Criminal Record Check
