About the opportunity

The Technical Systems Specialist plays a key role within the Student Systems team, focusing on the delivery of strategic improvement projects. This role involves developing and maintaining expert knowledge across student systems and supporting infrastructure, collaborating with systems support staff across organisational units to ensure successful project outcomes. Responsibilities include conducting requirements analysis, determining configuration changes, and managing the testing and implementation of major system upgrades. The role also supports day-to-day operations by enabling front-line student systems support, overseeing incident tracking, workload monitoring, and issue resolution. Additional duties include system administration tasks such as access management, code maintenance, and configuration oversight. The Specialist is also responsible for creating and maintaining operational reports that support University functions, leveraging data from multiple systems and reporting platforms.

What you'll do:

  • Develop and maintain an expert knowledge of data elements, student systems, supporting platforms, and business processes.
  • Consult on and implement system changes in response to complex scenarios, including analysis, development, testing, and deployment.
  • Perform research and identify opportunities for system changes, including to configuration, reports, forms and correspondence.
  • Provide training and mentoring for other members of the Systems Support team.
  • Contribute to the leadership of the Systems Support team.

What we're looking for:

  • Strong fluency in technology platforms and a deep understanding of contemporary IT protocols and operating environments.
  • Experience leading a team including the ability to influence without authority, to develop people and team cultures.
  • High level of analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • High level oral and written communication skills.
  • Effective organisation, planning and coordination skills to manage multiple priorities across systems, budget, people, reporting, project and strategic priorities.

Salary details

Appointment to this role will be at HEO 8 and will have a total remuneration package of up to $152,033 comprising base salary within the range of $114,282 to $129,943 plus 17% superannuation.
