Community Engagement Worker (Townsville)

Anglicare North Queensland Limited (Anglicare NQ) is a not-for-profit Australian charity providing place-based human services, community initiatives and advocacy. This role is within our Night Outreach program, which operates Friday and Saturday nights from 10:30pm to 3:30am to support vulnerable people, identify safety issues and reduce alcohol-related violence. The service offers a safe place to rest, access to water and first aid if required, and referrals to other services and precinct information.

Responsibilities
  • Provide a safe and supportive environment for intoxicated and vulnerable individuals during night shifts (Fridays and Saturdays, 10:30pm–3:30am).
  • Maintain accurate records of client interactions and service provision.
  • Offer first aid if required and facilitate referrals to services such as ambulance, police, hospitals, child safety and sexual assault services.
  • Provide precinct information (toilets, taxi ranks) and support as needed.
To Be Successful You Will Need
  • Ability to maintain accurate records of client interactions and service provision.
  • Ability to work night shifts.
  • A high level of commitment to the values of Anglicare North Queensland.
  • Ability to handle difficult situations.
  • Prior experience working with people under the influence of alcohol and other drugs will be highly regarded.
  • Experience providing first aid will be highly regarded.
  • Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, families and communities will be highly regarded.
  • Experience working with people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds will be highly regarded.
Compliance
  • A current QLD driver's licence 'Class C' or interstate equivalent
  • Blue Card (Working with children card)
  • A current national Police Check (within the last 3 months)
  • Current First Aid & CPR Certifications
