About the Role
SSI's Legal Team provides high-quality, organisation-wide legal advice and support to help the SSI Group achieve its strategic goals, manage legal risk, and ensure compliance with legal and regulatory frameworks. An opportunity has arisen for an experienced lawyer to join this collaborative team as Legal Counsel or Senior Legal Counsel, depending on experience. Reporting to the Managing Legal Counsel, you will deliver timely, solutions-focused legal services across a broad range of areas, including government tenders, property and leasing, employment law, privacy, data protection, insurance, intellectual property, disputes, corporate governance, and regulatory compliance. The role also involves drafting and reviewing contracts, identifying and mitigating legal risks, monitoring regulatory developments, and delivering legal education initiatives such as training, fact sheets, and legal guides to support staff in their day-to-day work.

What we are looking for someone who:
- Has 4+ years' commercial/corporate legal experience, including experience with commercial contracts in Australia.
- Is able to interpret legal requirements applying to relevant business operations, and to provide clear, risk aware and commercially focused legal advice.
- Is proactive, responsive, and able to operate with a high degree of independence and initiative.
- Is able to work well in a team, and with a diverse range of stakeholders.
- Is adaptable to change and has a growth mindset.
- Is motivated by SSI's purpose.
- Is able to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and work well under pressure.
- Has organisational skills, and high attention to detail.
- Is proficient with the Microsoft suite and is able to quickly learn new technologies.
Experienced in employment law, property law, and technology contracts, with a background in NGO, government, or in-house legal settings. Skilled in supervising junior staff and delivering legal training to non-legal audiences.
