Deputy Principal Legal Officer (with Relocation Support to Katherine, NT). This is a newly created leadership role at Katherine Women's Information & Legal Service (KWILS). The position offers the opportunity to grow into senior management while improving women's access to justice in the Northern Territory.
Responsibilities- Provide high-quality legal advice, casework and representation in complex matters
- Supervise and mentor a team of 4 solicitors
- Act as Principal Legal Officer when required
- Lead community outreach and deliver legal education
- Build relationships with stakeholders across legal, government and community sectors
- Regular travel, including overnight stays, as part of outreach work
- Admission as a solicitor in Australia with eligibility for an NT Practising Certificate
- 4+ years post-admission experience in relevant practice areas
- Experience (or strong interest) in DFSV, family law or child protection
- Trauma-informed, culturally safe practice skills, ideally with Aboriginal communities
- Leadership and mentoring experience within a legal practice
- Additional requirements: Ochre Card (WWCC), National Police Clearance, Manual Driver's Licence

Katherine Women's Information & Legal Service (KWILS) is a specialist women's legal service providing trauma-informed and culturally safe legal support across the Big Rivers Region. Our work spans domestic, family & sexual violence, child protection, family law, and victims of crime compensation. Guided by our 2025–2030 Strategic Plan, we combine legal services with advocacy, law reform, and community education to create lasting impact.
