Base pay range

A$142,000.00/yr - A$150,000.00/yr

The Role

The Role

Employee Relations is a specialist team within HR responsible for providing support and advice on the implementation of the University's employment and industrial frameworks.

Reporting to the Head of Employee Relations, the Senior Employee Relations Consultant will work with a team of specialists and partner with a diverse range of stakeholders on the provision of advice and support in managing complex and sensitive employment matters. Your day-to-day activities will include:

  • Leading case management of complex and sensitive employment matters ensuring equity in the process and alignment with the Enterprise Agreement
  • Providing change management advice including advising and assisting in the management of staff consultation and redundancy processes
  • Co-ordinating and facilitating dispute resolution processes, liaising with Union representatives and, as required, representing the organisation as an advocate in tribunals
  • Coaching managers and HR partners to address and resolve sensitive and/or complex employee relations matters
  • Researching, analysing and identifying options for addressing and resolving complex employee relations matters
  • Researching and developing advice and options to inform the organisation's industrial strategy
About You

You are a qualified and experienced employee relations specialist with strong consulting, coaching and communication skills, and the ability to build strong and effective working relationships with a range of stakeholders. You're a trusted advisor, a strategic thinker, and a calm presence in complex situations. You will have excellent analytical skills with the ability to engage and influence colleagues, clients and stakeholders at all levels.

You will have working knowledge of the Australian legal and industrial framework at both state and federal levels. You will demonstrate experience and ability in providing expert advice with respect to legislative, EA and policy requirements, managing complex and sensitive matters within a large and matrixed organisation.

You are highly organised and have a methodical approach to your work.

Your experience in a similar role within the higher education sector will be highly regarded but is not essential.

  • HR, IR or legal qualifications and/or related experienced.
  • Experience working within the Australian legal and industrial framework and providing expert advice with respect to legislative, EA and policy requirements.
  • Experience in handling complex and sensitive employment matters effectively including, for example, performance and conduct matters.
  • Ability to provide coaching advice to managers and HR partners handling complex and sensitive employment matters.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare and provide recommendations, policies, reports, proposals and advice.
  • Ability to effectively negotiate and influence key internal and external stakeholders.
