Apprenticeship – Carpentry (Maintenance & Repair). Start your career in carpentry through hands-on maintenance and repairs to keep the city's assets safe, functional and in working order. Based at Oak Flats Services Depot and reporting to the Team Coordinator, Building Maintenance.
You will complete a Certificate III in Carpentry at Shellharbour TAFE, gaining practical knowledge and skills related to city presentation. Open to school leavers, mature-age applicants and/or those who have already commenced their Certificate III in Carpentry. This opportunity is dependent on external funding confirmation. Successful applicants will commence in January 2026 if funding is confirmed.
Our Apprenticeships cover theoretical and practical requirements of on-the-job and off-the-job training, leading to a formal qualification and four years of practical experience with potential to gain additional skills across maintenance and city presentation teams.
Responsibilities- Support the Building Maintenance team with practical carpentry tasks focused on maintenance and repair rather than new construction.
- Repair doors, windows and fixtures; replace damaged timber; install and repair parkland furniture and equipment; and perform fencing and minor concreting works.
- Use hand and power tools, read maintenance plans and work safely in occupied buildings.
- Enrollment in a Certificate III in Carpentry course at Shellharbour TAFE (as part of the apprenticeship).
- Open to school leavers, mature-age applicants or those who have commenced their Certificate III in Carpentry.
- Pre-placement Medical examination is required.
- General Construction Induction Card (White Card) must be obtained prior to commencement.

What we offer- Temporary Full-time up to 4 years (or for the duration of the apprenticeship)
- 38 hours per week with access to a 9 Day fortnight
- Salary range from $601.70 per week to $827.40 per week (dependent on age)
