What you'll be doing

As the Clinical Midwife Educator for Maternity Services at Auburn Hospital, you will support the development of clinical skills and confidence among staff across all Maternity Services areas. You will be passionate about teaching and learning, eager to expand your own midwifery skills, and work closely with students, early-career midwives, and new staff, providing guidance, support, and education to foster their professional growth and clinical development.

  • Deliver education, training, and clinical skills assessments.
  • Support staff across all maternity areas (e.g., Birth Unit, ANC, Postnatal, Newborn Care).
  • Mentor students, early-career midwives, and new staff.
  • Promote high-quality, patient-centred care.
  • Stay current with evidence-based practice and updated policies.
  • Contribute to a culture of learning and professional growth.
  • Work collaboratively with the education and maternity leadership team.

Essential Requirements

  • Postgraduate midwifery qualifications relevant to the position.
  • Current and valid registration as a Registered Nurse (Division 1) with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.

Selection Criteria

  • Extensive clinical experience with postgraduate qualification in Maternity Services and a clinical teaching qualification or willingness to work towards it.
  • Ability to design, implement, and evaluate clinical education at the ward or unit level, supporting a skilled nursing and midwifery workforce within appropriate care models.
  • Effective communication skills, including negotiation and conflict resolution, with the ability to motivate and engage staff.
  • Commitment to professional development and maintaining current practice in the specialty.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, building partnerships with consumers and stakeholders.
  • Strong commitment to advancing midwifery practice in a women-centred, multidisciplinary environment.
  • Computer skills, including database management and data entry.
  • Ability to lead and implement change aligned with best practice and workplace culture.
