Overview of Position

Under the direction of the Kitchen Manager or designee, perform skilled cooking or baking to ensure high-quality, nutritious food production and service. May lead assigned staff in meal preparation, serving, and cleanup.

Essential Functions
  1. Prepare and serve attractive, high-quality, nutritious, cost-effective meals following standardized procedures, including cooking or baking according to the established work schedule, menu planners, and district standards.
  2. Complete tasks within the allocated time.
  3. Comply with approved safety and sanitation procedures.
  4. Assist in cleaning the kitchen, equipment, tables, and storeroom as scheduled by the manager and report equipment malfunctions to ensure safe working conditions.
  5. Assist in maintaining appropriate food and supply inventories.
  6. May direct or assist unit employees in meal preparation tasks to meet emergencies, training situations, or as necessary to maintain cafeteria operations.
  7. Maintain daily records and reports and submit them to the Kitchen Manager.
  8. Collect money and account for meals served according to established procedures, either manually or by computer.
  9. Maintain a plate count for records of meals served.
  10. Promote Child Nutrition Services programs to increase meal participation.
  11. Assist school staff in promoting proper nutrition.
  12. Establish and maintain cooperative working relations with others.
  13. Perform related duties as assigned.
Working Conditions

Requires standing and walking for prolonged periods, lifting up to 25 lbs., carrying, pushing, stooping, reaching, and fingering tasks. Flexibility and adaptability are necessary to shift tasks and priorities, handle frequent interruptions, and communicate effectively in difficult situations. Normal vision and color perception are required. May be exposed to cleaning chemicals.

Typical Qualifications
  • Meet minimum qualifications for Assistant and Satellite Servers.
  • One year of experience in commercial or institutional food preparation.
  • Ability to utilize fundamentals of meal preparation.
  • Skills to plan menus and adjust recipes.
  • Competency to complete and maintain all records as requested and substitute as needed.

Benefits are administered by the Washington State Healthcare Authority under the School Employees Benefits Board. Eligibility depends on hours worked (630 hours or more per year qualifies). Find the salary schedule associated with this role on the district's website.
