What We Need

To thrive in this role you must have excellent knowledge of social media platforms, writing and communication skills, sound news judgment, a keen attention to detail, a strong sense of urgency, an ability to multi-task and a thorough grasp of online content distribution.

Key Responsibilities
  • Create and curate compelling and engaging social media content for and PerthNow.
  • Manage and populate and PerthNow's social media accounts in conjunction with the wider digital team.
  • Use graphic design and video tools such as Adobe Express to help create engaging social media content.
  • Manage and PerthNow's paid social media accounts to ensure optimum reach and CTR.
  • Advise on Seven West Media's social media strategy and ensure the social media channels align with this strategy.
  • Identify trending story opportunities on social media.
  • Identify new online readers to expand the audience for the website.
  • Collaborate with digital producers, reporters, editors and the video team to ensure our news stories are given the right social media treatment.
  • Have a keen interest in news at a local, national and international level.
  • Identify new social media channels and opportunities to capture new audiences.
  • Apply news judgment and use analytical tools to maximize social media visibility.
  • Maintain awareness of legal and ethical issues in reporting.
  • Continuously upskill and stay updated with technology, digital and social trends.
  • Work effectively in a collaborative, fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
What You Bring
  • A journalism degree and experience working within the media industry or in a similar social media role.
  • A strong work ethic and a healthy level of initiative
  • A high level of literacy and attention to detail
  • Good interview and communication skills
  • The ability to work autonomously under high pressure.
  • Flexibility in a seven-day newsroom - including weekend shifts.
