Vacation Student - Geology at Evolution Mining offers hands-on geological experience, technical mentorship, and exposure to innovative mining operations at Northparkes.

Your Role

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assisting with geological mapping and core logging.
  • Sampling and analysing ore and waste materials.
  • Updating geological databases and maps.
  • Participating in grade control and reconciliation activities.
  • Supporting blast hole logging and ore mark-ups.
  • Monitoring ore movement and dilution during mining.
  • Collaborating with mining and processing teams on daily plans.
  • Completing field and core yard assignments under supervision of a geologist, aligned with academic progress and exploration interests.
About You

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Current enrolment in a Science degree majoring in Geology, Geoscience, Geophysics (honours strongly preferred) or a similar degree.
  • Experience with relevant software and systems through studies or placements (preferred).
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication skills across verbal, written, numerical, and graphical formats.
  • Ability to uphold high work standards and build strong relationships with peers and leaders.
  • Capacity to work independently to meet personal and team goals.
  • Valid manual driver's licence.
  • Willingness to live and work remotely.
Compensation & Benefits
  • 12-week residential program from December to February.
  • Roster: 5 days on/2 days off and 4 days on/3 days off, 8.5-hour days.
  • Subsidized housing in a mixed house with a private room.
  • Flights provided at the beginning and end of the program, and for the Christmas break.
  • Fuel reimbursement if travelling by personal car.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) provided.
  • Fast-tracked entry into the graduate program upon successful completion.
Training & Development
  • Hands-on experience through on-the-job learning.
  • Ownership of real projects with meaningful impact.
  • Mentorship from experienced technical leaders.
  • Participation in operational and personal development training.
Career Progression

Candidates who successfully complete the vacation program will be fast-tracked into the Evolution Mining graduate program, providing a clear pathway for career advancement within the company.
