Electoral Commission SA is expanding the team as we prepare to plan and deliver one of South Australia's largest logistical events, the 2026 state election.

The Senior Policy Officer – Law Reform Implementation is responsible for managing and coordinating the implementation of legislative reform relevant to 2026 election activities, with a key focus on activities to support the implementation of the Electoral (Miscellaneous) Amendment Act 2024. This includes developing Regulations, determinations, forms, and business processes to support the changes, in collaboration with relevant internal and external stakeholders.

Reporting to the Strategic Projects Lead, key responsibilities include:

  1. Efficient and comprehensive day-to-day management of projects and governance activities to ensure the delivery of project outcomes.
  2. Preparing project plans, project briefs, business cases (if required), briefing papers, project documentation, project evaluations, and closure reports, as well as reporting on project progression.
  3. Identifying, assessing, and managing project risks in accordance with ECSA's risk management framework.
  4. Providing high-level analysis, research, information, and advice to assist the development and implementation of legislative reforms.
  5. Ensuring the timely provision of information for internal and external requests through coordinating inputs, sourcing, and tracking relevant documentation.
  6. Providing expert advice and legislative interpretation regarding complex policy and legal issues related to legislative reforms.

To be successful in this role, you will need a tertiary qualification in law, significant experience interpreting and applying legislation, translating legal requirements into business and other processes, and experience in undertaking high-level research.

  • This role is offered on a temporary basis up to 18 December 2026.
  • To maintain the strict neutrality of the Commission, no person active in political affairs or intending to engage in such activities may be employed.
  • Employment is dependent upon a satisfactory criminal history check.
  • Extensive out-of-hours work may be required during the election period.
  • Some interstate and intrastate travel may be required.

Remuneration

  • ASO6 – $98,478 to $104,165 per annum
