The Opportunity

Vitrinite is seeking an experienced Manager of Environmental Approvals to lead the preparation and submission of environmental approvals for our current and future coal mining operations across Queensland.

As a central member of the team, you will be responsible for managing the full lifecycle of State and Commonwealth environmental approvals, ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation and supporting the timely development of both greenfield and brownfield projects. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the growth of a dynamic and future-focused resources company.

The role will be based at our Gold Coast – Currumbin office with travel to site in the Bowen Basin, central Queensland, as required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate the preparation and lodgment of State and Commonwealth environmental approvals for greenfield developments and amendments to existing approvals for brownfield expansions.
  • Managing proactive engagement and relationships with State and Federal regulatory bodies.
  • Overseeing Estimated Rehabilitation Cost (ERC) assessments and compliance.
  • Developing and implementing Progressive Rehabilitation and Closure Plans (PRCPs).
  • Managing Environmental Authorities (EAs) and Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation (EPBC) Act referrals.
  • Coordinating the development and delivery of State and Federal biodiversity offset requirements.
  • Providing strategic input into life-of-mine planning and forecasting, with a focus on long-term approvals.
About the Candidate

The successful candidate will possess extensive experience in environmental management within the Queensland mining sector, with demonstrated expertise in regulatory compliance, approvals, and team leadership. Essential qualifications include:

  • Bachelor\'s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or related discipline.
  • 7+ years' experience in preparation, submission and negotiation of State and Commonwealth Environmental approvals within the Queensland mining industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of Queensland and Commonwealth environmental legislation and mining regulatory frameworks.
  • Understanding of environmental approvals processes and risks.
  • Managing technical environmental impact assessments and consultants (e.g. ecology, groundwater).
  • GIS skills not essential but highly valued.
  • Must have the right to work and live in Australia.
  • May be required to complete background screening which may include a criminal check and validation of qualifications.
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment medical including drug and alcohol screening.
