Overview

Project Manager, Centre for Native Title Anthropology (CNTA) at The University of Queensland. Lead day-to-day operations of CNTA, a nationally recognised initiative funded by the Commonwealth Attorney-General's Department. CNTA supports identification and protection of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples' traditional rights and interests in land and water by coordinating capacity building and professional development for anthropologists working in the native title system across Australia.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver training and professional development to strengthen the skills of anthropologists in the native title system.
  • Support career pathways by contributing to student events and facilitating placements within native title organisations.
  • Drive collaboration by managing and updating the CNTA website and email list to share resources and build a community of practice.
  • Contribute to sector-wide initiatives through active engagement with stakeholders across the native title sector.
  • Advance research and mentorship by supervising native title anthropologists and co-authoring academic publications.
  • Project management, evaluation, and reporting.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Tertiary qualifications in anthropology; experience in management or related roles. A PhD, or progression towards a PhD, would be highly regarded but is not essential.
  • Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the native title system. Recent work experience within Native Title Representative Bodies or Native Title Service Providers is advantageous.
  • Strong knowledge of the Native Title Act 1993 (Cth) and its application in anthropological research relevant to native title.
  • Experience collaborating with legal professionals in the native title sector and understanding of the Federal Court of Australia's Expert Evidence Practice Note.
  • Familiarity with post-determination challenges faced by PBCs, including issues related to future acts and cultural heritage protection.
  • Ability to develop initiatives and work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and project management skills, including organizing conferences/workshops, website maintenance, logistics and mandatory reporting.
  • Ability to contribute to academic publications and promote native title anthropology in university settings.

About You
  • Tertiary qualifications in anthropology; management experience. PhD or progress toward PhD highly regarded but not essential.
  • Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in native title; experience with NTRBs or NTSPs is advantageous.
  • Strong knowledge of Native Title Act 1993 and its application in native title research.
  • Experience collaborating with legal professionals; understanding of GPN-EXPT.
  • Familiarity with post-determination challenges faced by PBCs.
  • Proven ability to develop initiatives and work with diverse stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication and project management skills; ability to organise events, maintain a website, manage logistics and reporting.
  • Ability to contribute to academic publications and promote native title anthropology in university settings.
