About Children's Ground

Children's Ground is a First Nations organisation. The Children's Ground Approach is designed and delivered through the leadership of First Nations people. We are committed to systems change to ensure dignity, justice and equity for all children and families. Our work focuses on national reform as well as evidencing a new way of working.

The Children's Ground Approach is a whole of community, whole of life approach. We privilege First Nations knowledge systems and practice. Over the course of a generation, led by local expertise, we create and deliver an integrated system that is centred on learning, development and wellbeing that responds to the child and their family through the key transition points from pre-birth to young adulthood.

Our approach recognises the cultural, social, and economic strength of our communities. We build on this over a generation to ensure a future for our children and grandchildren that gives them freedom, opportunity and rights to their culture and identity.

Children's Ground operates in Central Australia and across the Top End, with support provided by a Melbourne-based Shared Services team.

About You

You're a proud First Nations man who enjoys working with young people and being active in community. You're reliable, respectful, and ready to jump in and support wherever needed. You don't need to be a leader—you just need to care, connect, and show up with a positive attitude.

You'll Be a Great Fit If You
  • Have experience working with young people and understand the challenges and strengths in First Nations communities.
  • Are comfortable helping run activities like sport, digital media, cultural camps, and community events.
  • Are a good communicator and enjoy working as part of a team.
  • Are open to learning and using local languages and cultural practices.
  • Hold a current Driver's License and are willing to undergo a Police Check and obtain an OCHRE card.
  • Are committed to supporting young people and families in Darwin to thrive.

About The Role

This is a hands-on role focused on creating safe, engaging spaces for young people to connect, learn, and grow. You'll help bring programs to life—whether it's setting up a basketball game, supporting a film project, or helping young people share their voices through creative media.

You'll work closely with families, Elders, and other service providers to make sure activities are culturally strong and community-driven.

Key Responsibilities
  • Activity Delivery
  • Deliver engaging and relevant activities such as community events, sport and recreation, digital media, and cultural camps.
  • Ensure activities are age-appropriate and meet the diverse needs of young people and the community.
  • Support young people to participate in decision-making within their communities through youth governance.
  • Support the planning and implementation of school holiday programs and overnight camps.
  • Supervision and Leadership
  • Provide supervision and leadership to participants during activities.
  • Work as a team to deliver activities.
  • Act as a positive role model for young people.
  • Cultural Learning
  • Promote cultural learning and respect for cultural knowledge and practices.
  • Liaise with community elders and leaders to deliver activities
  • Community Engagement
  • Engage with families, Elders, and local stakeholders to ensure the program meets community needs.
  • Encourage and support all Aboriginal families, valuing their ideas and aspirations.
  • Program Support
  • Assist the Coordinator in planning and reviewing program activities.
  • Data entry, attend team meetings, consult with community.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of the program based on feedback from participants and stakeholders.
  • Contribute to Children's Ground
  • Be a positive, innovative and active member of the Children's Ground team.
  • Support a strong, connected, respectful and supportive organisation.
  • Engage with local languages by learning basic words/phrases and using them in interactions with First Nations people.
  • Participate in professional development programs offered by Children's Ground.

The Children's Ground Approach is designed and delivered through the leadership of First Nations people. We are committed to systems change to ensure dignity, justice and equity for all children and families.

If you're a skilled, compassionate and enthusiastic self-starter, join our growing team of change-makers.
