Our team

The Enforcement and Compliance Group (ECG) plays a central role within ASIC, with its teams conducting initial inquiries, compliance activities, or enforcement actions across various sectors excluding markets. The group is responsible for identifying and investigating potential misconduct, determining appropriate responses, and pursuing administrative, civil, or criminal outcomes.

As one of ASIC's largest business groups, ECG handles a wide range of complex and high-impact matters. The group's work spans from early-stage assessments of misconduct to managing large-scale and high-profile investigations and litigations. Their efforts are supported by in-house legal teams and partnerships with the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions for criminal matters. ECG's ongoing projects and priorities reflect its commitment to protecting consumers through proactive and strategic enforcement.

Please note that this recruitment process will establish a pool of Lawyers to fill current and future vacancies in our ECG teams.

The role

As an Enforcement Lawyer, you will contribute to ASIC's investigations of suspected misconduct, including obtaining enforcement outcomes. You will have the opportunity to participate in varied, interesting, and impactful work. Specifically, you will:

  • Contribute to preparing and conducting enforcement actions including civil litigation, criminal prosecution, and administrative measures.
  • Assist in the preparation and compilation of criminal, civil, and administrative briefs and support proceedings in State or Federal Courts.
  • Work as part of multi-disciplinary enforcement teams.
  • Engage in investigation planning and strategy discussions.
  • Project manage matters and provide investigative support to ASIC officers.
  • Employ evidence gathering techniques such as examinations, witness interviews, search warrants, affidavits, and notices.
  • Utilise ASIC's evidence management technology and systems to derive insights from data and documents.
  • Interpret and apply relevant laws to ECG's work.

About You

The ideal candidate will be inquisitive, analytical, proactive, outcome-driven, and comfortable working with complex information in a changing environment. You will have a collaborative interpersonal style and enjoy working within a large, skilled team.

In addition, you will

  • Hold legal qualifications and a current practicing certificate.
  • Be experienced with large and complex data sets, evidence management software, and investigative tools.
  • Possess strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Be passionate about using your legal skills to positively impact investors and consumers in Australia's financial system.

Interviews will be held in person from 15–26 September 2025 at your applicable office.

To work with us, you must be an Australian citizen and willing to complete the ASIC Suitability and Baseline Assessment issued by ASIC's Security team.
