Graduates in the Generalist Stream come from a range of degree disciplines, including public policy, arts, sciences, humanities, law, international relations, media, communications, or psychology.

Generalist graduates work in various roles across our different businesses. Some of the tasks they may undertake include:

  • Undertaking a variety of tasks and activities within the business areas.
  • Contributing to the team and organisation's strategic goals.
  • Undertaking analysis and research projects.
  • Coordinating requests for information across business areas.
  • Assisting with project/program management.
  • Preparing briefing materials, policy submissions, reports, or correspondence.

Your role:

  • A 12-month graduate program.
  • You will engage in projects and develop skills needed to excel in the public service sector.
  • Gain exposure to senior leaders and collaborate with teams across Australia on impactful issues.
  • Flexible work arrangements to support a healthy work-life balance.

Training and development:

  • Complete a structured learning program through a comprehensive 10-month APS Graduate Development Learning Program.
  • Receive mentorship and career coaching.
  • Guidance and support from a dedicated Graduate Program Coordinator.

Salary and benefits:

  • A competitive salary package starting at APS level 4, $82,999 plus 15.4% superannuation, increasing to $90,000 after 12 months plus superannuation.
  • Annual leave, cultural leave, and parental leave.
