About the role: We seek self-motivated applicants with good communication skills who can work independently and as part of a team. The role involves undertaking maintenance and repair work on school buildings and grounds to ensure a safe environment for the school community.

Key Responsibilities:

General Grounds Duties:

• Mowing the site, including playgrounds, carparks, and the front driveway and access road.
• Whipping and edging mowed areas.
• Hedging of school gardens, plants, and trees onsite.
• Weeding and garden clean-ups as required.
• Blowing of school hard surfaces, including carparks and driveways.
• Some weed spraying during holiday periods.
• Hosing and general cleaning of buildings and hard surfaces.

General Maintenance Duties:

• Minor plumbing repairs on taps and sinks.
• Minor electrical repairs, including lights and switches.
• Door repairs, including locks, hinges, and handles.
• Furniture repairs and installation.
• Building repairs for classroom items and external fencing.
• Minor repairs to playgrounds and structures.
• Driving school vehicles as required.
• The position is based at our Thornton main campus, with satellite classes at Tarro, Abermain, Waratah West, Muswellbrook, and Port Macquarie. Willingness to travel (reimbursed) to these sites for short visits is desirable.

About the School:

Aspect Hunter School provides education for approximately 280 students on the autism spectrum from Kindergarten to Year 12 at its main campus in Thornton and across satellite classes within Catholic and Department of Education schools in Newcastle, Hunter, and Port Macquarie regions. The school also offers a Distance Education program for students on the autism spectrum in Years 3 to 8 across NSW.

Qualifications

What we are looking for:

• Experience in general grounds/building maintenance.
• Knowledge of electrical, plumbing, and general trade maintenance.
• Understanding of machinery and equipment operation related to building maintenance.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Trade background is desirable.
• Current driver's license and own vehicle.
• Current NSW Working with Children Check for paid employment.
• May be required to provide an International Police Check clearance.
