Who is Jawun?
Jawun is a not-for-profit organisation that leverages the capabilities of corporate, government and philanthropic Australia to support Indigenous-led development. Guided by the strategies of Indigenous leaders and organisations, Jawun works to build the capacity of Indigenous organisations to drive positive social impact at community-level.
Jawun began facilitating partnerships between corporate and Indigenous Australia in Cape York in 2001. The Jawun model is transferable and today we work with remote communities in Cape York Peninsula (QLD), the Pilbara, East and West Kimberley (WA), Central Australia (NT, WA, SA) and Northeast Arnhem Land (NT), regional communities of Goulburn-Murray (VIC), Central Coast (NSW), Lower River Murray (LRM) and Far West Coast (FWC), the urban communities of Inner Sydney (NSW) and South West Australia (WA). Jawun draws upon the best and brightest secondee resources from over 30 corporate and government partners in pursuit of Indigenous led change. Our current partners can be found here.
How you will contribute:
You will be aligned to and able to advocate for the regional reform/change agendas led by community.
The purpose of this role is to maximise the effective use of corporate and government partner resources in pursuit of Indigenous led change in the East and West Kimberley, WA. You will work as part of a tight knit group of Regional Directors in 10 other regions across Australia alongside a dedicated central office team mostly, but not all, based in Sydney.
Core to your role will be the following:
- Maintaining strong relationships with Indigenous partner organisations and leaders.
- Delivery of impactful secondments of talented people from corporate and government partner organisations into the region that support and accelerate Indigenous organisational and regional priorities.
- Plan and execute immersion activities that emotionally connect senior executives from Jawun's corporate and government partners with the region, for shared learning.
- Help to scope and prioritise Indigenous partner organisation and community objectives.
- Produce timely, high-quality data and impact reporting.
- Engage with corporate and government partners who focus support to the region.
- Execution of the Regional Partnership Strategy.
Travel requirement of the role:
You will work with both regions and travel regularly between Rubibi and Kununurra via air, and Kununurra and surrounding areas via road. This role also requires occasional interstate travel for learning and team connection.
As the successful candidate you will have:
- A background in community development, program and people management and/or experience working with a diverse range of stakeholders in a senior capacity.
- Leadership experience - confidence, charisma, credibility and ability to lead a group.
- The ability to engage, build strong relationships and rapport with a variety of stakeholders (from Indigenous leaders to secondees to capability partners) and work with a wide range of personal styles.
- Excellent communication skills both written and oral, including high quality reporting and report writing.
- An appreciation for the importance of safety, and the ability to prioritise and apply safety standards and policies. This includes the administrative requirements that go hand-in-hand with this critical part of the role.
- Deep listening skills and the ability to make strategic linkages and connections.
- Able to lean in to help to resolve the occasional conflict or difficult situation.
- Proven experience working autonomously, including effective prioritisation of work in a defined working rhythm.
Is this your ideal next step?
Please submit your resume including a short cover note summarising why you are interested in, and how you are suitable for the role.
