Assertive Outreach Support Worker

Location : Balga, WA

Part Time – 35 hours per week

Max-Term Contract – Until July 2026

Why this role matters

The Salvation Army Australia's Homelessness Stream provides high-quality, person-centred services to people at risk, and or experiencing homelessness. We support adults and families, including accompanying children with accommodation, case management, outreach support, financial assistance, connection and referral to other specialist services.

The primary purpose of the role

The Wanneroo Engagement and Assessment Team (WEAT) aims to provide assistance and support to the most vulnerable members of the community, primarily those who are rough sleeping or experiencing homelessness. WEAT is a mixed model, providing walk-in services (static location points) and an assertive outreach service operating within the City of Wanneroo and peripheral local councils, providing placed-based support, meeting rough sleepers where they are residing.

The role of the Assertive Outreach Support Worker (AOSW) is to engage with individuals and / or families who are experiencing homelessness or at imminent risk of homelessness and assess their immediate needs.

This positions operating hours 7 am-2 : 30pm Monday-Friday located at Balga Salvation Army with s alary and conditions are in accordance with the SCHADS award, level 4.

You will successfully

Operate within a strengths-based, trauma-informed and person-centred approach, promoting the need for individualised support, self-determination and holistic care.

To provide support consistent with evidence-based homelessness responses and TSA's Policies and procedure, including the case management support of individuals and families.

Undertake risk assessments and needs identification in an outreach setting, utilising approved service tools and documents.

Provision of transport for individuals, where appropriate, in-line with TSA Policies / Procedures and Guidelines.

Support implementation of the Homelessness Stream Model of Care that underpins services across the country and defines expectations and standards for those we serve, our partners and allies, and the Australian community.

You will have (Requisite Skills & Qualifications)

Diploma in Community Services or related discipline; and,

Practical experience in welfare service delivery, as specified in the award description.

Or, significant experience of 5 or more years in Homelessness Services

Current Senior First Aid Certificate.

Current driver's license.
