Karara Mining Limited (KML) is an Ansteel Group company formed as a joint venture with Gindalbie Metals Limited. Ansteel is one of the largest iron ore producers and steel makers in China. Located 200km south-east of Geraldton, Western Australia, Karara is the largest mining operation and the first major magnetite mine in the Mid-West. It produces a high-grade concentrate product for export to steelmakers.

The opportunity

We are seeking a suitably experienced Operator Maintainer to join our Operations team based at the Geraldton Karara Export Terminal. Reporting to the Operations Supervisor, you will be responsible for ensuring all operational requirements are met to site standards of efficiency, quality, and safety.

This role operates on a Sportsman style roster: 2 days, 2 nights on, 5 days off / 2 days, 3 nights on, 4 days off / 3 days, 2 nights on, 5 days off.

To be successful in the role, the following is essential:

  • WA 'C' class Drivers Licence
  • High Risk Work Licence
  • Dogging (DG)
  • Basic Rigging (RB)
  • Elevated Work Platform (WP)
  • Confined Space Ticket
  • Working at Heights Ticket
  • Demonstrated knowledge, experience, and understanding of port operations and process plant equipment
  • Proven experience with fixed plant policies and procedures
  • Strong understanding of scheduled maintenance systems and work order processes
  • Ability to undertake problem-solving investigations and plan work accordingly
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite and computer programs
  • Australian Citizenship or valid visa with permission to work
  • National Police clearance required for MSIC

  • Ensure work meets specifications and quality standards
  • Monitor, communicate, and report workplace issues or risks
  • Share technical knowledge within teams
  • Develop and improve maintenance procedures
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement
  • Participate in development activities to extend competencies
  • Attend scheduled training as part of your development plan
  • Lead by example in safety behaviors
  • Participate in coaching and mentoring apprentices, contractors, and team members

About Karara Mining

Located 200 km south-east of Geraldton in Perenjori, Western Australia, Karara has an expected mine life of over 30 years. The operation includes a large open-pit mine, processing plant, and extensive infrastructure, including an 80km railway linking the mine to the Port of Geraldton, capable of handling 16 Mtpa of export product.
