Mungabareena Aboriginal Corporation is seeking a dedicated Social, Emotional & Wellbeing Worker within the community health and community service providers to assist increasing Aboriginal people access to mental health services. A key component of the role is increasing the understanding within mainstream service providers in the Wodonga region of models of care that support mental health recovery. The position will work with providers in ensuring that service delivery is culturally appropriate and accessible to the Aboriginal community. The role will meet with both Aboriginal service providers and mainstream providers to plan and coordinate the provision of services that improve mental health outcomes for Aboriginal people.

In this key role, you will:

· Make referrals to appropriate treatment services and support families accessing services.

· Participate in the development of community-based programs designed to enhance the community's ability to respond to the needs of Aboriginal people.

· Liaise with mainstream and specialist service providers to ensure effective service delivery and continuity of care for clients.

· Work in collaboration with MAC AOD worker to assist clients who have identified dual diagnosis.

· Provide community education, awareness and prevention programs in social and emotional health.

· Work with the community to develop and implement a range of activities to promote acceptance of people with mental disorder

· To improve planning and coordination of service provision to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community in the Wodonga region.

· To increase understanding within mainstream Services of Aboriginal cultural issues through the provision of cross-cultural training.

· Collect and analyse health information from key departments such as the Department of Health and Human Services which will guide evidence-based planning.

· Improve access to mental health care and undertake health promotional activities with other partner agencies and staff within MAC.

· Work with relevant agencies and individuals to reduce the barriers to effective service delivery.

· Improve and compliment the working relationship between Mungabareena Aboriginal Corporation and relevant organisations including funding bodies, mainstream health providers and other Aboriginal organisations.

· Advocate for improvement to mental health services by representing MAC at stakeholder meetings, liaising with peak bodies such as VACCHO and making formal submissions.

· Identify and prepare funding submissions for community-based programs or services, prepare reports to funding bodies and acquit funding applications.

· Participate in team meetings and strategic planning for future directions being undertaken by MAC.

This position requires willingness to provide, complete and submit evidence prior to commencement of employment of:

A current Driver's Licence.

A current Victorian Working with Children Check.

A current Police Check.

Prior experience in one or more areas of child and adolescent mental health, juvenile justice or substance misuse would be viewed favourably.
