Mental Health Worker Role
  • Identify mental health wellness needs of clients and their families through comprehensive assessments
  • Promote acceptance of people with mental health issues and reduce stigma in the community by fostering a culture of empathy and understanding

This role involves engaging with families, carers, and clients affected by mental health issues using a client-focused approach. It also encompasses:

  • Providing case management to support clients effectively in achieving their goals
  • Delivering culturally sensitive and holistic programs and services to promote the overall wellbeing of Aboriginal people
  • Increasing accessibility of mental health services within the local Aboriginal community through strategic partnerships and collaborations
  • Empowering the local Aboriginal community to take charge of their health and family wellbeing through education and support
  • Fostering relationships with mainstream health providers to enhance the delivery of mental health services

Requirements

  • Experience working in the mental health sector or formal qualification in a related field such as health/social or behavioural sciences
  • Demonstrated understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures with established local community connections
  • Experience in goal setting, connecting individuals and families with the right support services and opportunities to meet their needs
  • Ability to cultivate effective relationships with peers and clients
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Commitment to collaborative teamwork and the delivery of comprehensive community services
