About The Client

Akal Building Group Pty Ltd is an established company located in Epping in VIC that providing Bricklaying services.

They are seeking to hire an experienced Bricklayer with the right attitude to join their team to work on residential, commercial and boutique projects.

The Role

You will have the opportunity to work within an established business, providing career progression opportunities in the long term. This is a full-time position with annual salary set between $77,000 to $78,000 plus superannuation.

The position will be based in Epping but the selected candidate will be providing services to various locations as per customer requirements.

The Responsibilities

Main tasks for the job will be:
  • Carry out setting at workplace
  • Work effectively and sustainably in the construction industry
  • Plan and organise work
  • Conduct workplace communication
  • Carry out measurements and calculations
  • Read and interpret plans and specifications
  • Apply basic levelling procedures
  • Erect and dismantle restricted height scaffolding
  • Carry out basic demolition
  • Apply ohs requirements, policies and procedures in the construction industry
  • Handle and prepare bricklaying and block laying materials
  • Use bricklaying and block laying tools and equipment
  • Carry out cavity brick construction
  • Clean the work area and ensure that any debris or hazardous material is cleared away
  • Measure the work area and calculate how many bricks will be needed for the first row
  • Ensure that there is enough material available to put in layers of bricks
  • make sure that sufficient bricks are available at all times and order more bricks for subsequent workdays
  • Mix cement using hands or mixing tools depending on the amount of cement
  • Ensure that bricks are laid symmetrically, and that cement is appropriately applied to hold them together
  • Manage excess cement to lessen wastage
  • Shape and trim bricks to make sure that they fit in properly in places such as corners
  • Use a variety of power and hand tools such as hammers and trowels
  • Use pointing tools to apply finishing touches
  • Determine if bricks need to be laid vertically or horizontally
  • Weld metal parts and apply plaster on walls as instructed in the work order
  • Study plans for the building before starting on a bricklaying project.
  • Layout patterns and foundations according to the instructions on work orders
  • Polish new surfaces using a variety of materials and tools
  • Make a list of needed materials and tools for the next workday and ensure that stock inventory is sufficient.
  • Carry out concreting to simple forms
  • Place and fix reinforcement materials

The Requirements

To be considered for the position you must meet the following requirements:
  • At least a Certificate III in Bricklaying
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience and skillset
  • Minimum 2 years in laying bricks, blocks, and stone in various patterns and alignments for residential and commercial projects
  • Minimum 2 years experience with different masonry techniques, including blockwork, stonework, and decorative finishes
  • Must have at least 2 years experience of work performed professionally in a commercial capacity
  • Have the ability to lay a minimum of 700 bricks per day
  • Have own tools to use on site
  • PPE- high vis clothing, hard hat, steel caps
  • Hold a White Card
  • Ability to read technical plans
  • Knowledge of current industry trends and culture
  • Effective and efficient problem-solving skills
  • Strong work ethic and ability to work autonomously
  • Proven track record of reliability - references required
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the best safe work practices
  • Ability to use initiative, set priorities, and meet deadlines
