Located on the lands of the Bidiagal Clan of the Dharawal Nation (Randwick, NSW), Black Dog Institute is the only Medical Research Institute in Australia to investigate mental health across the lifespan, our aim is to create a mentally healthier world for everyone. Reporting to the Community Fundraising Manager, this Community Fundraising Officer is responsible for providing administrative and event support to the Community Fundraising team while building high-quality relationships with supporters to achieve revenue goals. This is a customer service role, accountable for nurturing long-term relationships with new and existing community fundraisers to increase revenue, reduce supporter attrition and grow supporter loyalty. The Officer provides high levels of customer service, including inbound and outbound calling, complaint handling and timely, professional and empathetic responses. A key element is to inspire, empower and support community fundraisers to achieve their best fundraising results and maintain ongoing relationships with the Institute.
Duties & Responsibilities- Assist in growing participation in community fundraising events, toward income growth across a variety of fundraising programs, events and activities.
- Work with the Community Fundraising Team to ensure high-quality service delivery, rapid response to enquiries and acknowledgement of fundraisers and their efforts.
- Support fundraisers with fulfilment of materials and collateral to assist fundraising activities.
- Assist Community Fundraising Manager and other team members to support signature events, VIP fundraisers and third-party events as needed.
- Provide ongoing follow-up with fundraisers before, during and after their activity and steward fundraisers toward repeat support.
- Undertake projects to support the Community Fundraising team, such as updates to collateral or materials, ordering and maintaining merchandise, and other activities as required.
- Inspire supporters and maintain effective relationships across channels including telephone, email, online and in-person where required.
- Ensure excellence in customer service standards, responding in a timely, proactive and helpful manner.
- Undertake outbound calling for specific fundraising projects.
- Ensure all supporter enquiries are actioned and resolved appropriately.
- Ensure accurate entry of fundraiser information and updating of records, including notes on conversations with fundraisers.
- Assist supporters with creating online fundraising pages via platforms such as Funraisin and Raisely.
- Source updated content for Community Fundraising pages and liaise with Supporter Engagement to keep pages current.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of processes to support community fundraising programs cost-effectively.
- Assist with coordination and attendance at Black Dog Institute events.
- Build knowledge of the non-profit sector, fundraising best practices, and BDI's research and programs.
- Report WHS hazards and significant issues to Head of People & Culture or delegate.
- Work safely, applying a duty of care.

Essential CriteriaSkills & Experience Required- Up to two (2) years of experience in a similar fundraising or customer service role.
- Demonstrated superior customer service skills, high empathy, and ability to represent Black Dog Institute professionally at all times.
- Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills with diverse audiences.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Excel and online fundraising platforms.
- Excellent database and data-entry skills, with experience in CRM databases, preferably Raiser's Edge.
- Strong time management, organisation and prioritisation of deadlines.
- Aptitude for creative thinking and flexibility in trying new approaches to solve problems.
- Ability to work well in a team and independently.
- Relevant university degree or certification in marketing, business, communications or related discipline.
- Previous non-profit sector experience and understanding of charity fundraising.
- Experience in coordinating bespoke events.
