Our Federal Government client is seeking to engage an APS5 Community Engagement and Communications Officer for a 12-month assignment with potential extension in Geelong.


About the Team The Community Engagement and Communications Branch provides engagement and communication solutions and advice to support the NDIA to deliver the NDIS. They lead development and implementation of multi-channel engagement and communication strategies to support key initiatives across the NDIA and drive engagement with key internal and external audiences.

The branch collaborates with business areas to map, plan and deliver engagement and communications activities that support their projects and reach intended audiences and build their capacity.

They guide business areas on the execution of their engagement and communications activities and provide best practice engagement and communications advice.


About the Role The APS5 Community Engagement and Communications Officer is a team membership position that may be required to perform work that involves team leadership responsibilities requiring the setting of priorities and allocating work to other lower level team members. It will require working collaboratively within the team including sharing and developing specialised knowledge in areas of expertise.

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Preparation of event and engagement meeting briefs for high level stakeholders (Ministerial and senior leadership) including sourcing Agency data, attendee biographies; liasing with internal stakeholders; and contributing to coordination of high quality background information to support Minister and senior leadership attendance at events.
  • Coordination of internal engagement activity for high level stakeholder including development of runsheets and briefings.
  • Producing content for a variety of channels including NDIA intranet, event materials and other communication platforms.
  • Providing logístical management and advice to the Agency to deliver proactive and nationally consistent engagement activities, including the provision of logístical support at external forums and events.
  • Educating, informing and liaising with mainstream services to improve participant experience and increase participant social and economic participation.
  • Maintaining local relationships with relevant key stakeholders to support effective engagement.
  • Working as part of a high performing team to effectively engage with people with disability, their families and carers using a nationally consistent engagement approach.
  • Representing the NDIA at external forums and events, providing information and guidance to people with disability, NDIS participants and the wider community.
  • Delivering clear, concise and effective messaging to people with disability, their families and carers as well as other community and mainstream stakeholders.
  • Booking accessibility requirements for internal or Agency run accessibility requirements.
  • Managing Ministerial Engagement and International Delegations inboxes, acting as a point of escalation for the triaging of enquiries and requests.
