Position Overview

  • Are you a PhD-qualified scientist looking to transition from the lab or research role? Griffith Hack offers an exciting opportunity to kick start a new career as a Trainee Patent Attorney.
  • You will be part of the ChemLife team, an interdisciplinary group specialized in Chemistry and Life Sciences.
  • As a Patent Attorney, you will bridge science and law to help clients protect their IP rights and navigate other parties' IP rights.
  • This role includes participation in our structured Trainee Program, providing training and development by industry leaders.

Location

  • While the preference is Melbourne, roles may also be available in Sydney, Perth, or Brisbane.
  • If you have patent experience in the UK, US, or Singapore and are considering relocating to Australia, we are interested in hearing from you.

About You

  • The ideal candidate will hold a PhD with strong academic background in organic chemistry, biochemistry, immunology, or biotechnology.
  • Prior experience as a Trainee Patent Attorney or studying towards a Masters of IP is preferred but not essential.

  • Drafting patent specifications
  • Prosecuting patent applications
  • Handling patent oppositions
  • Providing advice and opinions
  • Engaging in marketing and business development
  • Completion of a Masters of Intellectual Property with full support from the firm

Experience and Skills

  • PhD in a relevant field with strong academic performance
  • 1-3 years of post-doctoral research experience preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal English skills
  • Attention to detail, analytical, and time management skills
  • Commercial mindset and strong relationship building abilities
  • Ability to work independently and in a team, communicate technical concepts clearly
