Position Overview Are you a Ph D-qualified pharmaceutical or medicinal chemist or biological scientist who is looking to move away from the laboratory or research? Griffith Hack has an excellent opportunity to kick start your new career as a Trainee Patent Attorney.
You will work in the Chem Life team, a collegial, multi-disciplinary team which has expertise in all fields relating to Chemistry and Life Sciences.
The role of a Patent Attorney is a job like no other.Being at the nexus of science and law, the role involves applying an understanding of technology to assist clients protect their IP rights and help them navigate other parties IP rights.
This role is the first step on your new career as a Patent Attorney.You will take part in our structured Trainee Program, where you will be trained, coached and developed by industry leaders.
You will be supported to complete the Masters of IP.Location While our preference is Melbourne, the roles could be in any of our other offices - Sydney, Perth or Brisbane.
If you have experience in the patent profession in UK, US or Singapore and are looking to relocate to Australia and have working rights in Australia we would like to talk to you too.
About You The successful candidate will have a Ph D with strong academic results in one of the following:organic chemistry (including medicinal & pharmaceutical chemistry)biochemistry, immunology or biotechnology We strongly encourage current Trainee Patent Attorneys or those studying towards their Masters of IP to apply but IP experience is not essential.
Key Responsibilities The successful applicant will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of tasks, including: Drafting patent specifications Prosecuting patent applications to grant Patent oppositions Advice and opinions Marketing and business development The successful applicant must be willing to complete a Masters of Intellectual Property, which will be fully supported by the firm, both financially and with study leave.

Experience and Skills The successful applicant will have a Ph D in a relevant field and strong academic results.Other skills and experience that would be beneficial include:1-3 years of post-doctoral research experience or related industry experience is preferred.
