Job OpeningWith a growing volume of studies and projects, Lycopodium Process Industries is currently recruiting for a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our Engineering team in Melbourne.


Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the successful applicant will be the primary focal point for supporting the business in relation to the Mechanical Engineering function, overseeing the management and delivery of the team.


Additionally, you will be responsible for proficiently managing the coordination and production of design outputs that are fit for purpose and in alignment with Project and Study requirements.


ResponsibilitiesThe tasks you'll perform:


Ensure the consistent quality of output of the Mechanical Engineering team, including alignment with the needs of the Company, Client, regulatory and contractual requirements.


Maintain the various design standards, specifications and procedures necessary to enable design teams to work efficiently and maintain a reasonably consistent approach and a high standard of work across all projects and studies.

Conduct timely reviews of Project mechanical drawings to achieve full compliance with design intent.

Approve, guide and review engineering designs, including calculations & design development.

Coordinate mechanical design activities with other engineering disciplines.


Understand and educate the team of the latest developments to Industry and Project specific codes, standards and related engineering matters.


Maximise the productivity and efficiency of the discipline by planning, scheduling and the appropriate allocation of resources to ensure deliverables are met.

Interdiscipline co-ordination of technical aspects of the design.

Provide technical support and input to proposals, customer presentations, and other marketing / business development activities.

Prepare design scope, budget and schedule for written proposals.

Contribute to engineers-in-training professional development by providing consistent mentoring and identify avenues of development.

Develop and contribute to the delivery of improvement initiatives which support business priorities for continuous improvement.


Understanding and educating the team of the latest developments in Industry and Project-specific codes, standards, and related engineering matters is crucial.


RequirementsThe expertise you'll bring:
University Degree in Mechanical Engineering or the equivalent from a recognized tertiary institution.

15+ years post-graduate experience working within the industrial processes industry or on similar capital projects.

Proficient understanding of business acumen with the ability to adapt to different business environments.

Intuitive leadership skills with the ability to initiate, lead and manage change in a complex environment.

Capacity to delegate appropriately.

Exceptional ability to multitask and work at pace in a complex and challenging EPCM sector.
