QA/Automation Engineer

You are the practical person with the common sense, tenacity and combined hardware, network and software skills to realise this ambition.

Objectives of the Role

• Ensure that products are tested to a known and accepted standard before being released to customers.
• Identify and implement opportunities for automation so that the test process is as fast as it can be while maintaining its effectiveness.
• Identify opportunities for process and infrastructure improvement that will improve quality and participate in implementation efforts as they occur.

Responsibilities

The key responsibilities for the QA/Automation Engineer will include but not be limited to:

• Meet with Developers and Product Owners to understand the key parameters of the products to be tested.
• Have a good understanding of the existing test infrastructure and keep it in good working order.
• Attend the physical location of test infrastructure (including offsite locations) for regular inspection, maintenance and upgrade activities.
• Design, implement and document test procedures for products.
• Document test plans, perform tests as required and document the results in test reports.
• Recognise and identify problems in the testing process and respond appropriately.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
• With utmost urgency, perform testing of specific scenarios in support of customer queries as they arise.
• Provide input to the development of customer-oriented documentation and training materials.
• Recognise and identify opportunities to introduce automation in the testing process, design and implement solutions to exploit those opportunities.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Prior experience implementing automation.
• Prior experience with virtualisation and containerisation.

• Demonstrated ability to take ambiguous or incompletely defined problems and resolve them through consultation with appropriate stakeholders.
• Demonstrated a collaborative and team-oriented mindset for accomplishing goals and a bias to action – a desire to make things happen.
• Reasonable written and oral communication skills, and a propensity to ask questions when you don't know.
• Demonstrated proficiency finding faults in software.
• Demonstrated proficiency in at least one scripting language.

The skills and attributes that will help you stand out include:

• Proficiency with Python, PowerShell and Bash.
• Demonstrated practical understanding of electronic hardware.
• Demonstrated understanding of the concepts and implementation of computer networks.
• Demonstrated interest in technology and a demonstrated curiosity for how it works.
• Demonstrated high level competence using Linux.
• Proficiency using 3D printers.
