About the role- Part-Time (0.8FTE) until 30 June 2023
(must work Wednesdays)


As a Counsellor with Baptist Care SA's Family Wellbeing Service, you will deliver a model of counselling that incorporates a holistic, systemic and trauma informed lens over a suite of approved, universal, evidence-based counselling theories.

This role is based at our Salisbury office and actively delivers services throughout Adelaideand Adelaide Hills.

You will provide direct support and facilitation of services to, for and on behalf of our clients which may include individual counselling, facilitating psycho-educational sessions, supporting clients and their community of care team (includes parents, trusted carers and other identified supports such as any connected agencies or other community supports within their circle of influence).

Your duties will involve, but won't be limited to:

  • Deliver child-focused counselling and family therapy to children, young people in partnership with their families to support good mental health for individual and family functioning as well as supporting the family to build capacity to learn life skills in these areas.
  • Deliver a client centred practice approach based on the organisations best practice framework.
  • Delivery of short term, early intervention, evidence based therapeutic supports whilst working alongside children and their families in addition you would be supporting clients to engage in our Next Steps program to access services with other community agencies and services that may beidentified as a needs gap for that client.
  • Provision of the FWS program services via community outreach, mental health promotion/education and community development activities that are designed to increase the local capacity to understand and respond to children or young people at risk or affected by mental illness.
  • Play an active role in attending and documenting the client journey as per our best practice model.
  • Actively participating in all supervision as required (individual, peer, and group) to demonstrate accountability and improvement of practice.

About you:


You will be self-motivated, creative, engaging, and have an attention to detail as well as an awareness of the bigger picture in regard to our program and contract.

You will also bring with you the following skills and experience:

  • Demonstrated experience in the provision of counselling as part of an organisation providing mental health services, and/or the delivery of professional counselling services to children and/or families.
  • Knowledge, understanding and experience in previous roles where you have used trauma informed and responsive principles and practice methods and solution focussed therapy.
  • Have a good working knowledge and understanding of evidence based, brief/systemic therapeutic approaches
  • Evidence of competent experience and ability for provision of therapeutic group facilitation, presenting or training.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand contractual service and program compliance in a community services environment.

  • A valid full South Australia driver's license (C Class)
  • National Police Clearance

  • Looking Through Their Eyes (previously Child Safe Environments Certificate) or willingness to obtain
  • Ability to work outside of normal office hours
  • You must be willing to use your own vehicle to travel to various parts across Adelaide
