Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Counsellor to join our team and provide trauma-informed counselling services to victims of crime. As a Counsellor, you will work closely with victims to address the immediate impact of the crime and provide essential guidance during their engagement with the criminal justice process.

About the Role:

This is a challenging yet rewarding role that requires a high level of cultural competency, working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, as well as Culturally and Linguistically Diverse families. You will be working in a therapeutic context, delivering high-quality trauma-informed counselling, comprehensive support, and referrals tailored to the specific needs of victims of crime.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver trauma-informed counselling services to victims of crime
  • Collaborate with relevant social and practical support services to address critical needs
  • Perform risk and safety assessments, conduct counselling sessions, and review progress
  • Establish effective communication with key stakeholders in the criminal justice system
  • Uphold principles of confidentiality while ensuring compliance with mandatory reporting obligations

Requirements:

  • Tertiary qualification in social work, psychology, counselling, or related discipline
  • Demonstrated experience in providing counselling to those affected by violence, abuse, and trauma
  • Knowledge of current evidence-based therapeutic practices
  • Knowledge of the criminal justice system and processes
