About the team
The Calculations Team supports the FWO's compliance and litigation activities via the provision of wage calculations and underpayment analyses.

The team works closely with other areas of the FWO, including Fair Work Inspectors and the Legal team, to deliver thorough and accurate time and wage assessments as matters track towards an enforcement outcome.


Typical Duties
The typical duties include, however, are not limited to:

  • Lead and manage a team of data analysts across multiple sites to deliver complex calculations solutions
  • Lead, design and develop complex data analysis models and/or refining existing calculations templates in Excel, Power Query, R and Power BI
  • Lead, develop and build data mining and data analysis solution on payroll data from a range of employers against minimum entitlements contained in modern awards and enterprise agreements
  • Lead, develop and build automation and calculation solution on large and complex payroll records to support investigations
  • Lead the team to identify ways to streamline existing processes, optimise and ensure continuous improvement of calculations tools
  • Effectively manage competing work priorities to meet tight deadlines in a fastpaced and dynamic work environment
  • Build and sustain positive working relationships with various internal and external stakeholders to ensure effective and efficient progression of calculations matters
  • Engage with team members to identify and facilitate individual capability development opportunities.

Selection Criteria

  • Demonstrated experience in building the capability of a geographically dispersed team, including developing new technical skills and solutions.
  • Ability to lead, design, develop and deliver highquality, endtoend technical solutions for complex data analysis models and calculation solutions, which includes the analysis and quality control of large data sets and associated processes.
  • Ability to manage competing work priorities to meet tight deadlines in a fastpaced and dynamic work environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with modern data analytics and data science tools for data analysis, visualisation, and reporting (desirable experience in R and Power BI).
  • Ability to identify opportunities to create technical solutions or processes to improve efficiency and accuracy of calculations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to communicate and summarise complex information and solutions.
