Based at our Steel packaging plant in Melbourne and reporting to the Operations Manager, the Technical Manager is a critical hand on leadership role.

The core of the role is to provide management, influence and leadership to manufacturing with a Safety, Quality, Production, and Continuous Improvement focus while maintaining technical standards, approvals and leading the new product development process in line with our strategic plan.

Job Description*This role is accountable for*- Driving through contribution and collaboration and the organisation's vision "Towards Zero Harm"

  • Performing required design and development of customer specific projects from prototyping, testing and manufacture costing through to completion.
  • Designing and developing program cost estimates for new product launches.
  • Leading the implementation of technology in the facility to meet our customers increasing expectations and continuously improve safety and productivity of the process.
  • Driving LEAN focus on improving existing equipment, work methods, process improvements and development of new innovations. Working with the Plant Management team to meet the requirements for producing, packaging, and shipping a quality product.
  • Evaluating, improving and documenting manufacturing processes
  • Providing LEAN manufacturing leadership and mentoring to other team members employing RCA problem solving, reliability and LEAN Culture to drive operational excellence
  • Maintaining compliance of company policies, safety standards, quality specifications, regulatory requirements, and Lean Manufacturing practices to lead positive changes within the organization.

The Qualifications for this role

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • 5 years implementing Operations Improvement techniques, including OFS, Lean, Six Sigma, RCCA
  • Senior leadership experience
  • Track record of cost improvement
