The Team


The Victoria State Office is divided into two key areas; the Operations Delivery section, who are responsible for overseeing and administering the 39 Victorian electoral divisions, and the Project Support Unit that undertakes the governance and corporate support including financial and administrative services for the state.


For the delivery of federal events or local by-election, staffing rapidly expands to help manage the greatly increased workload around risk management, fast moving project work and logístical activities, media, and public scrutiny.


The Opportunities


Working in the Project Support Unit, the Project Officer supports Senior Project Officers and Assistant Directors in the day-to-day management and delivery of projects relating to the corporate, governance and election readiness functions of the State Office.

Supporting work that is moderately complex and/or sensitive in nature.

The Project Officer participates in section planning and undertakes day to day management of short term tasks and work area planning for longer term initiatives or specific projects.


During the electoral event, under limited direction, the Project Officer engages regularly with stakeholders to keep them informed of progress in relation to projects.

Utilising project management expertise to support the delivery of events and project outcomes.

This position is an agile position and during the election cycle will be required to contribute to the delivery of different projects across the State Office as agency priorities necessitate and as directed by management.

Suitable applicants may be considered for future opportunities with the AEC in Victoria. Roles available will be dependent on the changing business needs and requirements of the AEC. Future opportunities may be filled on an ongoing or non-ongoing basis.

To excel you'll have:

  • Ability to manage a small team to meet operational objectives, while identifying training needs and promoting professionalism.
  • Demonstrated experience in delivering within a project framework, setting priorities or delivering quality results, including resources, budgets, reporting and ensuring that project tasks are delivered on time and meet the needs of the end user.
  • Ability to undertake risk management and assessment within a project management and delivery environment.
  • Knowledge and experience in the effective management and delivery of medium to large scale projects within a highly operational and legislated environment.
  • Confidence and ability to effectively communicate, collaborate and lead negotiations with team members, colleagues, business areas and external stakeholders; and
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and a strong commitment to facilitating and driving working collaboratively within a team to achieve positive results and support the AEC's strategic direction.

Desirable skills and experiences:

  • An understanding of procurement and contract management processes and practices.
  • Managed increased workload in the context of tight time frames.
  • Knowledge of or ability to quickly gain knowledge of Australian electoral law, processes, practices, and parliamentary systems.
