The Team


The Victoria State Office is divided into two key areas; the Operations Delivery section, who are responsible for overseeing and administering the 39 Victorian electoral divisions, and the Project Support Unit that undertakes the governance and corporate support including financial and administrative services for the state.


You will join a team that ensures the proper conduct and delivery of Federal election or local by-election and upholds the Electoral Integrity Framework.

For the delivery of a federal events or local by-election, staffing rapidly expands to help manage the greatly increased workload around risk management, fast moving projects and logístical activities.


The Opportunities


Working in the Project Support Unit, the Project Officer supports Senior Project Officers and Assistant Directors contributing to organisational outcomes and working collaboratively in the day-to-day administration, planning and delivery of projects relating to the corporate, governance and election readiness functions of the State Office.


During the electoral event, under limited direction, the Project Officer engages regularly with stakeholders to keep them informed of progress in relation to projects.

This position is an agile position and during the election cycle will be required to contribute to the delivery of different projects across the State Office as agency priorities necessitate and as directed by management.

To excel you'll have:

  • Demonstrated experience in successfully completing allocated tasks and delivering quality results by working within a framework, including planning, budgeting, scheduling and completion of components of projects.
  • Ability to undertake risk management and assessment within a project management and delivery environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and strong commitment to facilitating and driving working collaboratively within a team to achieve positive results and support the AEC's strategic direction.
  • Confidence and demonstrated ability to effectively communicate, collaborate and negotiate with team members, business areas and external stakeholders at all levels of seniority.
  • Ability to prepare written work that is well constructed and adapted to the needs of the audience.
  • A demonstrated proficiency with computer based project tools (e.g. Microsoft product suite of Project, Excel and PowerPoint)

Desirable skills and experiences:

  • Knowledge of, or ability to, quickly gain basic knowledge of Australian electoral law and practice.
  • Knowledge or experience in participating in the delivery of medium to large scale projects within a highly operational and legislated environment, with the ability to make evidencebased and effective decisions.
