About us
The Royal Botanic Gardens and Domain Trust is responsible for the management and stewardship of the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney, the Domain, the Australian Botanic Garden, Mount Annan and the Blue Mountains Botanic Garden, Mount Tomah.
Staff working for the Trust are employees of the Department of Transport within the Botanic Gardens Greater Sydney agency.
About the role
3 x casual opportunities are available within Royal Botanic Gardens Sydney for First Nations Learning Trainees. The roles report to the First Nations Learning Lead and will provide support services to the Education and Engagement team with the delivery of education, horticulture, sustainability and culture across the Botanic Gardens
The roles will:
- Assist in the delivery of education programs including interpretive tours to the general public
- Support the team in leading groups outdoors and develop skills to deliver programs and tours to people of different backgrounds
- Update records and implement strategies for the work
- This is an Aboriginal Identified role _where Aboriginal identity, cultural knowledge or connections are a genuine aspect of the role. Positions are specifically noted under the provisions of the NSW Antidiscrimination Act _
Key knowledge and experience
- Previous experience in the delivery of programs and education to people of all ages and backgrounds is preferred but not essential
- Able to work autonomously in supporting the delivery of programs
- Experience or desire for in the education sector
- Previous records management experience or willingness to learn and with sound administration skills
- Ability and willingness to learn to integrate current knowledge of First Nations heritage, botanical, horticultural and environmental issue, and plantbased arts and crafts into education programs
Essential Requirements
- This role is an identified Aboriginal role and therefore Aboriginality is an essential element including an understanding of Aboriginal culture and heritage. Applicants must be of Aboriginal descent through parentage, identification as being Aboriginal and accepted in the community as such. Aboriginality is a genuine occupational qualification under section 14d of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977. Only Aboriginal peoples are eligible to apply.
