About the Role This role has responsibility for leading design, development and validation activities for roof rack systems and accessories.

Managing a design team, you will be responsible for ensuring projects are meeting technical and commercial requirements whilst communicating progress with the relevant category manager and wider business.


Job Description Key Responsibilities:
Lead the development of roof rack components and accessories in accordance with Rhino-Rack design and development processes.
Design and development of roof rack components and systems using various manufacturing methods.
Manage and mentor a team of mechanical engineers, provide support and guidance to ensure projects remain on target.
Review designs, drawings, tolerances and specifications on projects.
Collaborate with category managers to deliver products within the project requirements.
Work closely with operations, and supply chain on new product development process.

Lead DFM, DFQ projects in collaboration with Operations, Sales and Marketing Collaborate on continuous improvement initiatives with key stakeholders to optimise fitment and product performance.

Provide technical expertise and insights to support the development of innovative adventure and travel products.
Lead test fitments, design failure testing and validation exercises to ensure products meet regulatory, performance and quality specifications.
Working collaboratively with other members of the Engineering & Design team based in Australia and the USA.
Provide guidance and support to direct reports and other members of the department.
Collaborate with category management to create project timing plans for the engineering and validation portions of projects.
Collaborate with the technical writing team to improve end user experience.
Provide occasional technical support for business training activities.
Manage resources and budgets for project activities.
Manage project costs and commercial consideration in collaboration with the category manager.
Desired Skills and Experience Strong engineering background with experience on load carrying mechanical systems.

An excellent understanding of part design using various processes such as Sheet metal forming, Plastic injection moulding, extrusions, metal stamping and casting.

Experience in leading a team and managing multiple projects.
Experience with NPD process, design for manufacture and design for assembly.
Significant experience with CAD software (Solid Works).
Experience with analysis techniques such as FEA (Ansys Mechanical) Excellent mechanical aptitude and hands on approach to work.
Excellent estimation, planning and time management skills.
Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
Effective communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and vendors.
Commitment to ensuring the highest quality and safety standards in product design.

Understanding of IP & Patents and how to interpret the claims Qualifications and Experience: Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, automotive Engineering, or a related field.

Proven experience as a senior mechanical engineer, lead engineer or similar role, preferably within the automotive or outdoor product industry.

8+ Years of experience in a mechanical engineering role.
Experience in planning and preparing work to a schedule.
Experience with design for manufacture for various processes such as Injection moulding, metal components, and extrusions.
Experience with CAD software (Solid Works) Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work in a cross-functional team environment.
