The project is supported by the 26TEN Employer Grants and we are in search of a qualified and experienced educator who meets the criteria of an Adult Literacy Trainer to lead this initiative.


The position will be located at our partner company Mitchell Plastic Welding in Castle Forbes Bay, Huon Valley.


Insight Into the Project


Work & Training has a presence throughout Tasmania with approximately 50 personnel operating from offices in Launceston, Devonport, and Hobart.

Our focus is on enhancing the skills and job prospects for all Tasmanians, including engagement with indigenous and culturally diverse individuals, the long-term unemployed, and individuals with disabilities.


  • Review relevant documents and create templates and structures adhering to Plain English guidelines for future document preparation
  • Design and test a specialized assessment tool for the identification of employee core competencies
  • Develop industry-specific learning materials to facilitate the enhancement of employee core skills
  • Conduct core skills training either individually or in small groups
  • Launch initiatives to raise awareness of Plain English within the organization

Key Qualifications
  • Familiarity with workplace safety documentation
  • Strong planning and organizational/time management capabilities with the capacity to prioritize tasks effectively
  • Ability to work independently and proactively
  • Proficient communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Competence in Information and Communication Technology (ICT)

Mandatory Requirements
  • Adult Literacy Skills Trainer (26TEN) stipulations:
  • Teaching or education certification (TAE Certificate IV or higher, TESOL, or Bachelor's Degree)
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in teaching Language, Literacy, and/or Numeracy to adults
  • Awareness of issues related to adult literacy
  • Possession of a valid Driver's License and the ability to commute to the worksite in Castle Forbes Bay
  • Successful completion of an Australian Federal Police (AFP) National Police Check before commencement
  • Current Working with Vulnerable People Registration
  • Eligibility to work in Australia
