About VMIA

Victorian Managed Insurance Authority (VMIA) is the Victorian Government's insurer and risk adviser, covering the people and projects that help Victorians thrive.

We're an agency in the Department of Treasury and Finance portfolio established under the Victorian Managed Insurance Authority Act, and report to the Assistant Treasurer.

We provide insurance and risk advice to government departments and agencies, with more than 4,600 clients ranging from small community service organisations to public hospitals, schools, and core service providers.

We also provide domestic building insurance to builders, giving Victorian homeowners peace of mind for building projects valued over $16,000.

We help our clients prepare for, prevent, or reduce the impact of harm. When things don't go to plan, we help clients restore services and recover quickly.

We are looking for a self-motivated and dynamic Enterprise Risk Officer to join our specialised enterprise risk management team and support our Enterprise Risk Lead with building and execution of our Enterprise Risk workplan.

You will be an integral member of the team and the go to person for coordinating activities and collecting vital information leading to the ultimate delivery of this framework and shaping our processes/operational objectives.

This role will allow you to develop skills toward career paths in both risk management and government insurance, taking responsibility in working across our enterprise-wide business units and driving real change for our organisation and ultimately the Victorian communities.

The role reports to the Enterprise Risk Leadin the Risk Services Division.
Our hiring manager will invest in training, developing you into a seasoned risk professional.
How you'll make an impact

  • You support the delivery of the enterprise risk workplan to ensure the activities in our annual risk strategy are achieved
  • You will support key internal stakeholders to adopt the refreshed Risk Management Framework.
  • You listen and analyse the needs and challenges of each business area, to support ongoing the ongoing identification of improvements to the Framework
  • You help design and implement practical tools and templates that help the business to identify, assess and manage enterprise risk more effectively and efficiently, and improve the overall experience with working with the enterprise risk team
  • You research and share relevant information and materials that would support the business with their risk assessment and discussions
  • You help to maximise the readability and useability of our intranet page and ensuring it aligns with the Framework principles
  • You support the coordination, maintenance, and ongoing improvements of a central enterprise risk register for the organisation
  • You support the provision of advice to and facilitate discussions with business units and project teams as required to help them embed risk management into everyday activities and decisionmaking.
Who you work with

  • You work primarily with our Enterprise Risk Lead, supporting the delivery and execution of enterprise risk activities, frameworks and operational objectives.
  • You collaborate with wider teams and functions such as Insurance, Insights and Analytics, Claims, Client Services Development Team, and Risk Advisory.
  • You work collegiately and provide support to key stakeholders at all levels enterprise wide.

  • You are a selfstarter, a keen learner and highly motivated professional ideally with an understanding/exposure or familiarity with risk management concepts, systems and frameworks.
