As the Deputy Head of Financial Stability Department, you will be responsible for providing leadership and strategic direction of teams in the Financial System Group.

This is a 5 Year fixed term contract.


You will have an impact by inspiring, guiding and enabling staff in Financial Stability Department to define and deliver on the Reserve Bank's goals and strategies.

You will lead and develop people in the team to produce high quality briefing material and policy advice, and direct and contribute to analysis and research undertaken by the Department in support of the Bank's mandate for stability of the Australian financial system.

This work includes monitoring and analysis of the resilience of the Australian financial system and potential risks to financial stability, including the analysis of longer-term structural issues relevant to financial stability in Australia and internationally.

You will develop and coordinate the Bank's work on domestic and international regulatory issues, including with APRA and through the Council of Financial Regulators, the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision, the Financial Stability Board and the G20.

You will play an important role in shaping the future of our iconic Australian institution.

Your team

You will report to the Head of Financial Stability. You may have a small number of direct reports (one currently).


Financial Systems Group supports the Reserve Bank's broad responsibilities for financial system stability and its role in payments system oversight and policy.


Financial Stability Department analyses the implications for financial system stability of developments in the economy, financial markets and the financial sector more generally, including areas such as patterns of financial intermediation, financial products and risk management techniques.

The Department provides advice on these issues to the Governors and the Board and supports the Reserve Bank's representation on bodies such as the Council of Financial Regulators, the Financial Stability Board and the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision.

It is responsible for producing the Bank's _Financial Stability Review_.

Our Financial Stability team is a team of around 40.

Your background


We're seeking an ambitious and driven leader to join the team leading the Financial Stability Department and its key initiatives and deliverables.

Your thought leadership combined with your strong stakeholder management skills, resilience, people leadership and strong interpersonal skills will help set you up for success in this key senior Bank leadership role.

To be successful in this critical role you will possess:

  • Substantial experience in analysing financial and economic issues with advanced knowledge and understanding of domestic and international financial system and regulatory issues.
  • Strong research and advisory capability, coupled with proven ability to develop policy proposals.
  • Strong people leadership, coaching and mentoring skills to develop team members.
  • An adaptable leader with proven success of driving key business outcomes, with experience leading teams and driving change in a diverse and complex environment, as you will play a crucial role in the culture of the team and the Bank.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to negotiate, influence, and communicate strongly with key stakeholders across the Bank and externally, notably APRA.
  • The ability to think strategically to complement your strong analytical, and risk management abilities.
  • Relevant academic and professional qualifications, preferably at a postgraduate level, or equivalent experience
  • Australian citizenship as Commonwealth Security Clearance is required.
