THE ROLE


We encourage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, looking to establish or continue their career in Human Resources, to consider this position at Macquarie University.

The Indigenous HR and Workforce Consultant will provide end to end HR advice and support to Walanga Muru, the University's Indigenous Strategy Unit, as well as Indigenous staff, and managers of Indigenous staff, in Faculties and Offices across the University.

This role will work with the Office of the Pro Vice-Chancellor Indigenous Strategy, Faculty based HR Client Managers, senior Faculty management and the Workplace Diversity and Inclusion Team to engage, coach and support the development and execution of quality Indigenous employment opportunities and initiatives as set out in the

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Workforce Plan

(currently being refreshed). It will also work with Organisational Development to deliver the

Manawari Cultural Safety Training


program which aims to provide meaningful understanding and respect for Aboriginal cultural values, histories, beliefs and practices across the University.

About You


The successful applicant will have a strong interest in Indigenous workforce development and training as well as a genuine desire to support employment and advancement of Indigenous peoples.

Ideally you will be Degree qualified and/or have experience in Indigenous employment or HR management with an understanding of programs that support positive Indigenous employment outcomes.


Ideally, you will have:

  • Wellrounded generalist HR experience;
  • Ability to collaborate, problem solve and implement practical and appropriate HR solutions;
  • A strong interest in Indigenous workforce development, employment and advancement;
  • Ability and/or willingness to develop and deliver workplace training;
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills and the confidence to work with and influence senior managers across the University;
  • A strong and confident personal and community identity as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person.
Ongoing support and skills development will be provided to ensure success in this role.

About Us


Human Resources provides support and advice to academic and professional staff relating to the attraction, selection, performance, development and remuneration of the University's workforce.

It also oversees the development of its leadership and management and ensures the University complies with relevant workforce legislation.

The HR Client Services teams develop and manage relationships with key stakeholders across the University and its entities, providing end to end support and advice to staff at all levels within the faculties and offices.
