The Opportunity
Join the Equity and Diversity Team in the Faculty of Engineering as a
Social Impact and Partnerships Lead.

This is a key role to build relationships with a broad range of external and internal stakeholders, to enable the social translation of faculty research to deliver real social impact, with a focus on the Pacific region.

With our internal stakeholders you will provide strategic support and guidance at the Faculty and School level.

For external stakeholders, you will seek opportunities to foster relationships with national and international government agencies, regional development programs, social enterprises, local universities and communities (referred to from hereon as social impact partners); with a view to increasing the social impact of research translation initiatives.

In this role you will also seek to build upon existing relationships between academics and individuals within partner organisations and create new long-standing partnerships to effect social change.

This role reports to the Associate Dean - Equity and Diversity (ADED), UNSW Engineering and has no direct reports.

Skills and Experience

  • A relevant tertiary qualification with subsequent relevant experience and extensive relevant experience in social impact and translational activities. (This may or may not be in an educational context and might include experience working in the social sector across the Asia-Pacific region).
  • A commitment to high quality university engagement with social impact partners, with an understanding of global best practice and associated engagement models, and a proven ability to contribute to the development of associated strategy.
  • High level interpersonal and verbal communications skills, with demonstrated ability to build effective relationships with a broad range of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the cultural and professional differences between universities, social enterprises and government, and an understanding of the value gained by these organisations engaging in collaborative activities.
  • Established network of contacts within social impact partners with a focus on the Asia-Pacific region.
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously to develop and implement operational plans and budgets, with extensive project management experience and the ability to achieve objectives and report on outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and productively within a team, but also to take initiative and work independently while managing competing demands.
  • High level written communication skills, with demonstrated ability to interpret and communicate complex information, and to develop and deliver external relations materials with successful results.
  • Sound stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence senior management and liaise effectively with a range of stakeholders to ensure successful outcomes.
  • Excellent time management skills, with a demonstrated ability to respond to changing priorities, manage multiple tasks and meet competing deadlines by using judgement and initiative.
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW's aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Ability and capacity to implement required UNSW health and safety policies and procedures.
